Daryl Chappelle is a bit of a legend in Washington, D.C. You’re probably wondering who that is. What if I told you Chappelle has been at the same building working for 41 years?
That’s right, this man has outlasted even the longest serving senator at the U.S. Senate, where he just happens to be employeed. But he isn’t a politician. He’s a subway driver/maintenance technican on the U.S. Capitol’s underground subway.
Today Chappelle retired from the Senate floor, quite literally as he was recognized by an array of senators, his chief patrons. That’s the least they could do for a man who’s been around between the Russell Senate Office Building and the Capitol more than 100,000 times since his employment in 1972.
It’s probably not a surprise this man has the highest approval rating in the place.
Ride on, Daryl, ride on.
