Out of Context, Out of Mind

Yesterday, the New York Police Department (NYPD) sent out a tweet. The tweet was a friendly little picture that showed a passerby posing with two smiling policemen. “Do you hae a photo w/ a member of the NYPD? Tweet us & tag it #myNYPD. It may be featured on our Facebook,” the caption read.

And Twitter answered.

However there were not that many friendly pictures. Insead, folks began tweeting with that hashtag some ruthless photos and comments depicting the department in their normal role of law enforcers. Unfortunately it was bad public relations.

Take a gander at some of the screenshots we’ve captured and let us know your take. Did people act unethically or was NYPD asking for this?
